Tourmentin by Michelle Cornwell-Jordan

Emile and Serafine loved at first sight, believing in their fairytale ending. But fate and darkness from Emile’s past separate the lovers, with Emile being trapped in an alternate time, imprisoned in the 1800’s by his former lover the sultry Isadora. Isadora is convinced that she and Emile belong together and also as the old saying goes… believes if she cannot have Emile, then no one can.

Time moves forward and Emile’s beloved Serafine dies, but she promises to find her true love again. Love’s promise is realized, when Serafine is reborn into the modern age and has returned to the French Quarter and to the very hotel where her Emile still remains frozen in time. The lovers reunite, only to face an evil which vows to destroy them once and for all.

Wow!! That’s how I have to begin this review. Michelle Cornwell-Jordan amazed me with this novelette titled Tourmentin (A Gothic Love Story). It is an adult romance (Gothic romance that is) with a hint of Voodoo. The setting is in New Orleans (a place I love) in a hotel called the Hotel le Coup de Foudre. The reader discovers that le coup de foudre means love at first sight and was named this because Serafine and Emile fell in love at first sight and the hotel was their home in the early 1800s. This book absolutely pulls the reader in immediately not letting them go for one second. It is wonderfully suspenseful. At the very beginning the reader knows that something is aloof when a young writer named Melissa checks into the Hotel le Coup de Foudre and discovers that the man supposedly haunting the hotel (Emile) has the same last name as her, Despre. She is immediately drawn to a portrait of Emile in the lobby. Melissa’s resistance to the truth of who she really is doesn’t last long giving way to the love story that unfolds. Melissa and Emile’s love is one that transcends both time and space. I will also mention that there is a witch who can’t even come between these two lovers. And the revelation of the witch at the end is shocking and unexpected which really was a great twist. This book is superbly written. I would have to liken this book to a story I would expect from Anne Rice (but with no vampires). Hats off to you Michelle. Wonderfully written!

The Skeleton Key by CP Bialois

The Skelton Key cover

From the imagination of CP Bialois, author of Call of Poseidon and the Sword and the Flame series, comes a collection of short stories filled horror and suspense. Nothing is as it seems in the world around us. Join us as we step through the doorway and into the unseen workings of our world. With each story, Skeleton Key will warm your heart with a brother’s love, break it with the ultimate betrayal, and bring the shadows around you to life.

Keep telling yourself it’s only a book, and maybe that sound you heard will be just a tree limb scratching against the window. Be sure to read the paper in the morning, as it may save your life. And never, go into a room without something to defend yourself with. Most important of all, relax and have fun.

CP Bialois

About CP Bialois:

Where do I begin? Well first I guess it’s only fair to say that CP Bialois isn’t my real name. It’s a collaboration I made out of the three greatest pets anyone could ever want. My real name is Ed and I’m just an average person that has found a way to do what he loves. For as long back as I can remember I loved to pretend. Whether it was with my Transformers, GI Joe, or He-Man toys I loved to create intricate plots and have them fight it out. As a fan of horror, science fiction, action, and comedy I dare say my taste in movies are well rounded. Some of my favorites were Star Wars, Star Trek, martial arts, and anything with Swarzenegger in them.

I’d write my own stories about the characters I saw in the theaters or TV or I’d just daydream about what I’d see myself as the hero of course. You can’t have a daydream without beating the bad guys, getting the girl, etc. It’s just not right to envision yourself as a flunky or sidekick.

As far as books I loved Sherlock Holmes, Treasure Island, Dracula, and the normal assortment. My early love was the Star Trek novels, I’d read them or the Hardy Boys relentlessly. For a time I could tell you the plot of over a hundred books not to mention comics.

I have to come clean and say that I learned to read because of comic books. I was bored, make that extremely bored when we started to read in school. Reading “the cat fell down” really didn’t interest me. My dad, who continues to astound me with his insight to this day, figured comics would work. With that in mind he went to the newstand in town and bought issues of Donald Duck, Scrooge McDuck, Tales From the Crypt, and Spider-man. He patiently read through them with me until I picked it up. Whether it was him or the comics I learned to read in about two weeks and for a while few were as good as I was. For years after that whenever we’d go out he’d always spring for a couple of comic books for me.

While it wasn’t exactly the perfect beginning everything I’ve ever read or have seen has influenced me in some way and now is the time I’d like to share some of the ideas I’ve had over the years with all of you. I hope you enjoy my stories, they’re always fun to write and I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon.

This collection of horror short stories by CP Bialois is wonderfully frightening. These stories catch the reader by surprise leaving them scared to death and wanting more. Even though they were all wonderful, there were a couple that I especially enjoyed–Eternal Brothers and Ghost of All Hallows Eve. They are the type of scary that I really love. However, there was one that was scary but also very touching; I think it would be my favorite–A Brother’s Word. No matter what type of horror you enjoy, there is a story for everyone.

The Melody in Our Hearts by Roberta Capizzi
Doctor Valerie Fogarty studied hard to become a competent surgeon, but losing a patient during an operation made her throw everything out the window and now she can’t set foot into an operating room anymore. Until her best friend Ryan is brought into the ER on a stretcher, fighting for his life after a terrible car accident and she’s the only one who can save him. Meeting him as a teenager in their hometown in Ireland was the turning point in her life and she knows she will never be able to live without him. Will her determination and skills be enough to save Ryan’s life? Jazz Star Ryan Wyler grew up in Dublin, with a dream of becoming a professional pianist and continuing the legacy of his musical hero, Frank Sinatra. When opportunity knocks and he’s offered the chance to pursue a real music career, he’s happy to accept it, unaware that what he’s actually accepting is a package deal he will have no control over. But when success keeps him away from Valerie, his best friend since adolescence, Ryan will have to question his choices. A story about the value of true friendship, the power of dreams, and the unpredictability of love.
About Roberta Capizzi:

An avid reader since her childhood years and being an only child, Roberta always enjoyed the company of her fictional friends from the children’s books she loved reading, while she dreamed of writing her own stories one day.

It was when she discovered novels by authors Rosamunde Pilcher and Maeve Binchy in her teenage years that she realized it was time she put down in words the stories she had kept well hidden in her mind until then.

What started as a hobby, soon turned into a real passion and a way of life, until she could no longer keep the stories to herself, and decided to get over her fears and share them with the world.

Roberta lives in Italy, but her dream is to move out of her country and live either in a thatched cottage in the Irish countryside or in a country house with a swing on the back porch, somewhere in the United States, where she would love to spend her days writing novels as a full-time job, and maybe one day even get as far as writing a screenplay for a movie.

She is already working on a second novel, while jotting down ideas for more as they pop into her mind.

I absolutely loved this novel! The Melody in Our Hearts by Roberta Capizzi is truly amazing. It is a sweet but dramatic love story that pulls the reader in. The story began with a dramatic scene that briefly introduced the two main characters, Valerie and Ryan, which left you hanging and kept you reading until the end.  I loved the way the story began later in their lives and then caught you up. Valerie and Ryan are such wonderful characters that make you want them to be together; they were sweet and endearing toward one another from the first day they met. Roberta did a wonderful job of letting the reader really know and understand the characters. Their story was filled with a sweet love that is so rare. This novel was touching and pure of heart. Roberta did an outstanding job. I look forward to reading future work by Roberta Capizzi.

“Haunted pasts, scorching chemistry, page-melting tension…Joya Ryan delivers a love affair so deliciously sinful, you’ll devour it in one sitting.” ~National bestselling author Marina Adair

This book contains adult content and sexual scenes. Meant for readers 17+. (Adult Contemporary Women’s – New Adult Fiction).

About Joya Ryan:

I am a mother and a wife. I love to read, write, bake, cook, barbecue, baste, flambe’…basically anything regarding food you can assume my involvement. I also have terrible dance moves and unleash them upon the general public often. If you want to know more about me or the books I write, come check out my site!

This book was amazingly hot!!

Break Me Slowly by Joya Ryan was absolutely amazing. This novel rivaled that of Fifty Shades of Grey. Anna and Christian move over and make way for Katelyn and Adam.

The characters were so realistic and so complex with so much baggage; they were both broken but were able to mend each other. Katelyn was a wonderful person. Even with all of the issues with her family she still couldn’t abandon them in times of need. She was the same with Adam, always there for him. Adam was ever bit as complex as Katelyn, but they made a great couple, the couple that everyone routes for.

This novel is definitely for mature audiences. It was fabulously hot!!  The passion was intense and filled with raw sexual encounters and seduction. This is a must read for every woman. Ms. Ryan did an outstanding job. I look forward to reading more about Katelyn and Adam.

About M.D. Martin:
M.D. Martin was born and raised in Abingdon, VA. She first began writing the Legends of William’s Point series in 1995 while attending Virginia Highlands Community College. She has been published in the Bristol Herald Courier Newspaper, The Sage Literary Magazine, and Treasured poems of America. One of her Christmas stories has also appeared on the WABN radio station. When she isn’t writing she is an avid reader and loves the Pendergast novels by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, Edgar Allen Poe, and Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series. She also enjoys photography, camping, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
XTC A Lola Avocado Novel by MD Martin is a wonderful novel. The story is based on the character, Lola Avocado, who works for a sex toy business. She does some pretty off the wall things and makes some pretty bad decisions. Lola has really terrible luck–anything bad that could happen will happen to her. But she takes it all in stride. Lola is hilarious and you just want to be friends with her. All of the characters in this novel are so vivid and the descriptions are marvelous. The reader feels as if they know these characters. However, the story is not all fun and games, it has quite a bit of drama to it as well. I could so see this novel becoming Lifetime movie. This is not the type of book we are used to seeing from MD Martin, but it really works. She did an outstanding job. I strongly recommend this book. I hope to see more of Lola in the future.

The passion between the two main characters, the devotion and true love between Nila and Blake rivals the camps of Edward and Bella (Twilight Saga) and Elana and Stephan (Vampire Diaries).”
-Michelle Cornwell-Jordan-
“This is the second installment of the Nobleman series. The first book introduced us to the characters and set the stage for bigger and better things to come. This book delivers on that promise. From the get go there is action and drama in this high stakes game of good versus evil and the consequences of the choices that are made throughout the novel. Ronda Caudill PhD has crafted characters that we continue to want to know more about and genuinely care about their well being. Congratulations on a job well done.”
